Kenny Herbert, Rab Howat and David Paton have just finished recording a brand new 14 track album entitled ’ANOTHER POSITIVE LINE‘, full of melodic and heartfelt personal songs. Now called THE APPLE BEGGARS, they have this Album available to download on iTunes and on CD from March from the usual outlets and Ripping Records on the Southbridge, Call 0131 226 7010. What’s been Happening!!

I have been writing and recording some new songs with Davie including tracks ‘Is there anybody out there’ inspired after going to see the Star Trek movie and ‘Lonely no more’. I’ve also been playing a few live gigs with Rab and the boys and have now included ‘Magic’ in our set. Just back from Marbella with my great pals John & Davie, eating tapas, drinking great spanish wine and singing til the early hours of the morning, great stuff. Played in the SMClub at Frank Swanstons Birthday this week with the full band and as usual the place was rocking and a great night was had by all.

‘All of my days’ is a solo album I have written with 14 of my own original songs. Recently I have recorded a RADIO Session with Radio 6 with George Burton where I played two songs ‘live’ and chose three of my own favourite tracks which were ‘For what it’s worth‘ - Buffalo Springfield. ‘Only the heart within you‘- Stephen Bishop and ‘Re-define’you by Ola Onabule. This will be on air in the near future. George and myself have also been working on a couple of songs together ‘One step closer’ and ‘You’ came out of a jam session we had recently. Friday was another great sell out gig with Rab Howat at the ‘Caves’ Thanks for your support!!

Since coming back from Liverpool I have continued to concentrate on writing and recording some new songs ‘The sweetest gift’’Live for today’and ‘Waking up the world‘ are the most recent I have done with Davie. I always feel in life you must make an effort to achieve all you can for yourself, your friends and for the ones you love and care about. It’s all about making time and effort for anything or anyone that is important to you...and letting them know! This coming week I am making a video for ‘You Tube’ of a personal song I have written called ‘All my days’. This will be posted in the next couple of weeks. My pal from the west, George Burton has suggested we try and co-write a couple of new songs, which sounds a pretty good idea to me, he is enthusiastic, talented and loves doing original work. Looking forward to getting together. Finally I have written a song entitled ’Walking in the park’ which has been adapted from a poem written by a good mate Alfie Buxton, this will be recorded in the next week or so.

Liverpool - The White Star Bar Gig 2008

As usual we will be making our Annual pilgrimage to Merseyside for the Mathew Street Festival, playing live at the The White Star Bar, Mathew street - 1.30pm till god knows when on Sunday 26th August 2008. It will be good to see Alfie and Jackie and all the great people we have met in there over the years!!

The Voodoo Room and our next Gig Date

The early evening gig at the Voodoo Rooms was sold out and a brilliant night was had by all including ourselves. Thanks to everyone for there support and response on hearing our new original material. This was a top venue to play with really good sound and great atmosphere. We will definately be back there!!

KENNY HERBERT & RAB HOWAT Gig playing classic and original songs on Friday 25th July at the Edinburgh Masonic Club at Shrubhill June 2008. Sold oot again but I must say sorry for the few wee sound problems at one point, just one of these nights!!!

We are writing and recording a really exciting new song called ‘Nobody Knows’ after having just finished the last few new songs which included an uptempo version of ‘Living the dream’ on which we used Davie’s new Rickenbacker 12 string. I also played a small set at a Cancer charity gig on the 19th April with old pals David Valentine and Bob Heatlie. Andy Grossart played bass brilliantly on one of the sets and he also donated a set of Bass strings from Paul McCartney which raised £500.00. There is a Herbert & Howat gig at the Classic Shrubhill Masonic Club on Friday 25th July!!. Please contact Jim Swan for tickets on 07882 484258. Recording New songs with Davie Paton and the Caves Gig on February 29th 2008

Rab and Myself have started recording with Davie Paton again(a new song ‘Universal friend to society’) we are now going for a slightly different sound on our new material, but ultimately it will still be melodic and up to oor producer who we have complete faith in!!.

Rab, Davie and myself visited a musician pal of ours named George Burton (a great writer and player from through the west, who is mastering his new Album down in Abbey Road) check out applebeat.com. We threw about some ideas for another of our new songs called ‘If you don’t have love’ (inspired by a Jose Marinio interview)and we are now going back into the studio with Davie Paton who is going to produce a finished version of this one with George on BV’S. Both these songs and other classics were heard live on Friday 29th February in a sell out gig in ’The Caves’ with Raff supporting us, a great night was had by all who played and all who came to enjoy the music. George Burton joined us on stage for a good few songs and The great ‘Glendos‘ John and Johnny took care of the lights and recorded music which again was excellent. Thanks to everyone who came along to hear us!!! Then Sunday 2nd March at a Marie Curie Charity Gig in The Royal Musselburgh which again was great fun and raised £5,000 for Edinburgh Sick Kids. We are currently still writing new songs which we will be recording with Davie on a weekly basis throughout this year.

This last year we have recorded ‘Famous Faces on a Bar room wall‘ 13 songs again written from the heart and as I always say ”the music is the reward“. We have played a good few gigs recently and the new stuff gets great reaction.

We make an annual pilgrimage to Merseyside every August for the Mathew Street Festival, where we play live at the The White Star Bar, singing our own stuff and also the music that has influenced us and generations of people from all warpes of life, throughout the world. We try and write strong melodic songs and continue to perform with the same enthusiasm and excitement that the Beatles always had.In August we performed a live set on Spencer Leighs show on BBC Radio Merseyside along with a 5 hour session at the White Star Bar......unbeatable!!!

Just a quick mention of a fantastic day I had in October by special invite to see Paul McCartney. A private jet from Edinburgh took David Paton, John Glen and myself to Paris for a one off show at the Olympia. It was a small gig no more than 2000. We were VIPS and watched Macca rehearse all the Beatles stuff at the sound check (2 hours) then the show and attended the after show party. A magical unforgettable day to see our all time hero!!!
We try to get down to record in Abbey Road 2 when we can (or afford it) it is truly the best studio I have worked in and on the occasions I have been there the memories will stay with me all my life. Just to have recorded in the place the Fab Four had done it all is a unique and unforgettable experience. On all my songs I have try not to copy the Beatles (which is impossible) but to keep the feel of all the great melodies from the 60’s. Into January 2008, and Rab Howat and myself are again writing and recording new material with David Paton at his Edinburgh Studio. Our next gigs will be in March.
